Ceramic Skull Talisman no. 3

Skull talisman : meant to bring good luck and used as a reminder to live life to the fullest.

. . .

Skulls are found in symbology, ritual, and lore around the world. In many cultures, a skull is meant to be thought-provoking, and a reminder of life – not always death.

In Bolivia, skull amulets bring protection from loved ones that have passed away. In Oaxaca, traditional sugar skulls celebrate the lives of late family members. In Evora, Portugal, The Chapel of Bones is covered, floor to ceiling, in bones and skulls. The chapel was designed to remind people how short life can be, and how eventually, we all return to dust.

These rituals and places inspired me to create small talismans, skulls in this instance, as a reminder to live life to the fullest. These pieces are meant to be decorative or used as worry stones.
